Wize Girlz

  • Are you in the Middle School?

  • Are you ready for a program that allows you to be a decision-maker?

  • Are you interested in giving back to the community?

  • Would you like to participate in a variety of recreational activities with other girls your age?

If you answered YES to these questions, Wize Girlz is for you! This program involves girls participating in a variety of service projects and recreational activities and joining together for positive learning experiences. Each Wize Girz group meets once a week during the school year. Transportation is provided.

This is a parent education and support group for individuals through age 19. Prenatal and childbirth classes as well as two parenting groups. A meal, childcare and transportation are provided. Improve your parenting skills and share experiences with other young parents. Earn points for participating that can be used to purchase items for you and your child. All groups meet on Mondays at the YWCA from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. No pre-registration is needed, but please call 231-9373 by noon on Monday if you need a ride.


(Parents Achieving Success with Support)

A parent education and support group for individuals ages 20 to 26. Meet other young parents in similar situations, learn more about educational and employment opportunities for adults, and develop strategies for self-sufficiency and positive parenting. Earn participation "points" to purchase items in the incentive store and Stork's Nest. No preregistration required. A meal and child care are provided.

(Partially funded by Cedar Valley's Promise Empowerment)

PASS meets the second and fourth Wednesday each month from 3:45 - 5:00 pm.

Latino and Multicultural Services /  Servicios Latinos
Nuestro personal bilingue brinda servicios dirigidos a responder a las necesidades de las familias Latinas. Los servicios incluyen traduccion, interpretacion, referencias a otros proveedores de servios, y asistencia relacionada con la busqueda de trabajo, entre otros. (partialmente financiado de Cedar Valley United Way & Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa)

English Class/Clase de Inglés - GRATUITO!
Clases de inglés gratis para todos los individuos.
Clases de ingles gratis para mujeres Latinas. Ven y aprende inglés junto con otras personas en la comunidad. Este grupo también provee información sobre recursos en la comunidad, actividades comunitarias, información sobre salud y bienestar, y como grupo de apoyo. Proveemos transporte gratuito, cuidado de sus hijos, y un horario conveniente.

Miercoles 6:15 - 7:30 pm
Jueves: clase de la mañana: 10:00 - 11:30 am

The YWCA, along with several community partners, has again joined ISU Extension and Outreach to offer the Juntos program.  This is a series of 5 workshops that brings together parents, students, schools and the community to promote higher education for Latino(a) students.  The students and families will work with professionals who will help them explore options for higher education and how to navigate through the college application process. 

The program will be held in September at the YWCA.  A meal will be included during that time at no cost to families.  For more information and/or to register, please contact Umaru Balde at the YWCA (319-234-7589). 



La YWCA, con otros socios en la comunidad, se ha juntado otra vez con ISU Extension and Outreach para ofrecer el programa “Juntos.”  Este es una serie de 4 talleres que junta a los padres, estudiantes, escuelas, y la comunidad para promocionar la educación superior para estudiantes Latinos.  Los estudiantes y familias trabajarán con profesionales que les puede ayudar a explorar opciones para la educación superior  y cómo navigar a través del proceso de aplicar. 

El programa comienza el 23 de septiembre en la YWCA.

Young Women on the Move

This annual interactive event is held each spring and provides a day of fun and information for middle-school aged girls. Activities designed to explore areas such as self-image, career, decision making and fitness will be offered.

Watch for announcements at your school or check with your school counselor.

Young Women on the Move is free for participants but preregistration is required.
