Aquatics Director
The Aquatics Director is responsible for the leadership, administration, and growth of all aquatic’s programs and services. This position oversees pool operations, lifeguard staff, swim lesson programming, water fitness classes, aquatic safety, and pool maintenance while ensuring a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for members and program participants.
**This position may be filled as either a part-time or full-time role, depending on the qualifications and availability of the selected candidate.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Aquatics Operations
- Manage daily operations of the aquatics department.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate aquatic programs for all ages and abilities.
- Create and maintain pool schedules for lap swim, open swim, lessons, and aquatic fitness classes.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and national aquatic safety standards.
Staff Leadership
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate lifeguards, and swim instructors
- Coordinate staff meetings, in-service trainings, and continuing education opportunities.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels and manage employee schedules.
Swim Lessons & Programming
- Oversee all swim lesson programs, including curriculum development and instructor support.
- Expand aquatics offerings to meet community needs.
- Monitor program quality and participant satisfaction.
- Promote water safety education throughout the community.
Pool Safety & Risk Management
- Maintain current emergency action plans and safety procedures.
- Conduct regular safety audits and lifeguard skill evaluations.
- Ensure all aquatic staff maintain required certifications.
- Respond to incidents and complete required documentation.
Facility & Equipment Maintenance
- Monitor pool chemistry and water quality standards.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs for aquatic equipment and facilities.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, and maintenance activities.
Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
- Obtain and maintain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.
- Oversee pool chemical management and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure proper operation of filtration, circulation, and sanitation systems.
Membership & Community Engagement
- Promote aquatics programs to increase participation and revenue.
- Build positive relationships with members, families, schools, and community partners.
- Assist with special events, fundraisers, and community outreach initiatives.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Previous experience in aquatics management or aquatics experience
- Current Lifeguard Certification required or ability to obtain within 90 days.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required – YWCA will train you
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to demonstrate aquatic skills and assist during emergency situations.
- Ability to work in a warm, humid pool environment.

Lifeguard

Monday - Friday. Afternoons, anywhere from 12:30p-4:30p.
Overview
YWCA seeks individuals for part-time position(s) to execute all professional standards for lifeguarding along with upholding YWCA’s rules and regulations to provide a safe environment for all pool patrons.
Duties
Responsibilities: ·
- Represent, advocate and communicate the mission and philosophy of the YWCA to the community at all appropriate times. ·
- Maintain a safe environment at all times. ·
- Ensure safety of pool patrons at all times.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate programming. ·
- Promote and practice positive and continual communication with participants. ·
- Identify potential accidents hazards. ·
- Be alert or prevent accidents (risk management). ·
- Handle situations with courtesy and fairness. ·
- Group supervision. ·
- Follow established substitution procedures. ·
- Respond quickly, intelligently, decisively and in accordance with established emergency and accident management procedures.
- Administer First Aid and CPR as required. ·
- Keep accurate records and statistics as assigned. ·
- Promote and maintain positive relationships with all YWCA personnel. ·
- Communicate all relevant information to HWS Department in a timely manner
Requirements
MUST HAVE Current Lifeguard Certification
Age 16+
Must successfully pass the State of Iowa criminal records background check

Childcare Assistant Director
The Childcare Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Childcare Director in the operation and management of the organization’s childcare programming.
Responsibilities:
- Represent, advocate and communicate the mission, philosophy and programs of the YWCA to the community at all times.
- Maintain a safe childcare environment at all times through adherence to Iowa Department of Human Services Child Day Care Licensing Standards.
- Ensure a safe, professional environment with respectful, caring, activity-oriented, child-centered, age-appropriate childcare programming.
- Provide direction, leadership, and oversight of Childcare programming, its staff, facilities, and equipment.
- Ensure safety of children at all times.
- Plan and implement child-centered, age-appropriate programming and curriculum.
- Train, schedule, supervise, coach and evaluate childcare program staff; reporting concerns and issues regarding their job performance to the Childcare Director in a timely manner.
- Promote and practice positive and continual communication with parents/guardians.
- Accurately compile and organize program and staff records, documentation and statistics as assigned, meeting all assigned deadlines.
- Ensure adequate and appropriate food and program supplies are appropriately stored and available.
- Promote and maintain positive relations with all YWCA, school and other community personnel.
- Schedule “subs” as needed and provided coverage when needed.
- Demonstrate cultural competence and apply to every day lessons and activities.
- Participate in regular program evaluation process utilizing program participants and collaborators.
- Coordinate, plan, and supervise Pre-K programming.
- Coordinate, plan, and supervise Family Center programming.
- Communicate all relevant information to Childcare Department and YWCA Front Desk.
- Participate in relevant training as required or assigned.
- Assume additional duties as assigned by the Childcare Director and/or Executive Director.
Job Qualifications:
- Minimum five years’ experience in a childcare setting, supervisory experience preferred.
- Must be currently certified (or become certified within 30 days of employment) in First Aid, AED, CPR, Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse, Blood Borne Pathogens, Hazardous Materials, as well as obtaining yearly continuing education hours as related to the school age field.
- Must successfully pass the State of Iowa criminal and child abuse records background check for childcare providers.
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods and frequent bending.
- Must be able to do light to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to tolerate outdoor heat and humidity.
- Must be able to stretch, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach.
Full-time, $38,000 per year with benefits, including paid time off, health & dental insurance, retirement, etc.
